TEACHING

I really like helping people to make music. My teaching is based around helping others learn to play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, as well as how to write songs, and how to find your own voice with singing. My lessons can help beginners learn to sing or play an instrument, and can assist more seasoned musicians to extend their knowledge of an instrument, songwriting, recording, and performing.

OFFERINGS

The list below is a general outline of the teachings I offer. I have found that each student brings a unique set of experiences and direction for what they want to learn and I like to customize lessons for what each student wants.

  • Guitar lessons: 60 mins beginner - intermediate, for acoustic and electric guitar; folk, country, rock styles

  • Mandolin lessons: 60 mins beginner - intermediate; folk, bluegrass, country

  • Songwriting: 60-90 mins. Songwriting sessions can take many forms and will be organized around what you are interested in learning. These sessions can be designed to help you write your first song, to finish writing songs that are in progress already, or to critique finished songs that you want more help with.

  • Demo Recording: 120 mins. Demo sessions help you fully realize your original songs and result in producing a recording of your songs. Together we explore how to move an idea into a finished song by focusing on lyric writing, song structure and arrangement, and singing approach and instrumental approach. Finally, we explore the recording process to produce a demo recording and focus on techniques for vocal and instrument performance. These sessions run according to what you are looking to work on and can include all or parts of the above info.
